Help stop my dog barking, lunging and pulling on the lead!

Is your dog so over-aroused that you dread when it's time to take them out?

Do you feel embarrassed when your dog is barking and lunging at other dogs?

Are you getting up super early to go for a walk so you can avoid other dogs?

Are you feeling resentful because you can't do the things other people take for granted, going to the beach, a café or maybe even just a short car journey?

Barking and lunging dogs are hard to handle, emotionally and physically. It can even make you feel like other people are judging you. You may be regretting you even have a dog! What you thought would be a nice activity has now turned into a nightmare. Things are just going from bad to worse, and you worry that your dog will end up biting another dog?

Unfortunately, the more you put your dog into these situations, the more stressed out you and your dog will be. Taking them too close to another dog maybe just too much for them to cope with. Barking is their way of creating a little bit of distance to feel safe.

Yanking and telling your dog off may look like it's working, but your dog is just shutting down inside.

It's pretty easy to teach your dog to walk nicely on their lead, but often it's not the lead walking that's the problem. It may look like pulling on the lead, but often it's the fact that your dog is feeling anxious, frightened or frustrated.

These concerns need a touch more than just your regular dog training.

Worry no more. You've come to the right place!

I will show you how to manage your walks, how to start feeling comfortable around other dogs and build on you and your dog's confidence.

We can only go at a pace that your dog is comfortable with, so this is what can take time, patience and commitment.

FAQ’s

How long does it take for my dog to be happy around other dogs?

There are no guarantees for how long training may take. There are many reasons why your dog's behaviour is challenging, but the underlying emotions need to be dealt with before you can start making real progress.

There are no quick fixes. We need to coach dogs on how to cope in these situations and teach new coping strategies. It's about doing the best we can with some dogs by giving them a better quality of life.

Can I put my dog in doggie day-care to socialise them around other dogs?

We can't socialise an older dog as that has to be done when your dog is very young. We need to slow things down and start where the dog feels most comfortable.

Why should I choose you?

If you are dedicated and want to change how your dog feels in these situations, we can achieve great things together. Changing behaviour takes time, and there is no magic wand, so I will need you to be fully committed and on board with the training.

I promise that together we can make life easier for you and your dog.

I cant recommend Jean enough

“She has a key and comes in while we are at work. Rascal had many issues that I told Jean about, pulling on the lead, barking and lunging at cars, not very good with other dogs...the list goes on!

Jean said she could help and she wasn't wrong. The frightened little boy we got from the rescue centre became more confident and happy. We were taught the techniques to use so we all enjoy our walks now. I cant recommend Jean enough.”

Helping owners in distress

“Teddy, our cockerpoo was re-homed with us when he was 8 months old. He had not been trained or socialised as a puppy. For 2 years we made very little progress with him despite going to two different puppy class groups. It was only when we found Jean of Toddies Dog Training who explained all about what being anxious meant to a dog could we understand his behaviour and the reason why he would and could not listen to our instructions. Jean is exceptionally knowledgeable about anxiety in dogs, very helpful and above all patient! We cannot recommend her highly enough. She has taught us various ways to deal with Ted and he has become a much calmer and obedient dog within months. We still have a way to go with him, lead walking, mixing with other dogs and people but Jean is there to help and guide us. She is a lovely,  friendly lady with a real passion for helping and teaching dogs and their owners in distress! I believe Ted will lead a better, less anxious life eventually and we will enjoy our dog and our time with him much more as a result. We cannot thank Jean enough for her invaluable lessons.”
